Requirements common to all ordinary procedures
- Apostilled criminal record certificate, issued no more than three months ago.
- Apostilled birth certificate, issued no more than three months ago.
- One photograph.
Naturalization through 5 years of residency
The requirement is 5 years with a valid immigration document, counted from the date the immigration resolution was issued.
Spanish-language and Costa Rican history-and-values exams are required.
Naturalization through 20 years of residency
The requirement is 20 years living in Costa Rica, provable through any official means available.
Spanish-language and Costa Rican history-and-values exams are required.
Naturalization through marriage
Being married for a two-year period and living in Costa Rica for that same period.
Spanish-language and Costa Rican history-and-values exams are not required.
